GLIAC Football Players of the Week - Week 2

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the Week 2 of the 2017 football season. Ferris State senior quarterback Reggie Bell earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Northwood senior defensive lineman Charles Williams captured GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors along with Northwood sophomore kicker David Riser who claimed GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week accolades.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Reggie Bell, Ferris State

Ferris State University senior quarterback Reggie Bell had a huge season-opening performance in lifting the No. 2 Bulldogs to a decisive 48-27 road win over Findlay in non-league action at UF's Donnell Stadium in Findlay, Ohio, on Saturday night. Bell ran for a FSU career-best 216 yards and four touchdowns on the ground while also completing 14-of-21 (66.7%) passes for 206 yards and a score in the triumph. He opened the game with an 85-yard touchdown run on FSU's first official offensive play and later added two more first half scores as FSU built a 31-13 halftime lead. He also had a 56-yard TD pass to Malik Taylor in the opening half. Overall, Bell engineered seven FSU scoring drives in the contest and helped the Bulldogs roll up 653 total offensive yards in the game, including 413 on the ground.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Charles Williams, Northwood

Northwood senior defensive lineman Charles Williams registered three sacks in Northwood's 47-34 road win over Missouri S&T. Williams currently leads the GLIAC in sacks (3.5) and tackles for loss (4.5) through the first two weeks of the season.


SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK - David Riser, Northwood

Northwood sophomore kicker David Riser went 4-for-5 on field goal attempts, while going 5-for-5 on extra point tries to rack up 17 points for the Timberwolves on the road in a 47-34 victory over Missouri S&T as NU improves to 2-0. Riser split the uprights from 31 yards out in the first quarter to give NU a 10-0 lead before cashing in from 26 out early in the second quarter to take a 13-7 edge. He then added a 34-yard field goal with five minutes left in the first half to go up 23-7. Riser finished off his day with a career-high 47-yard made field goal in the fourth quarter to put Northwood ahead 40-21.
