Ferris State junior defensive end Caleb Murphy received GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition for the second week in-a-row for his five-sack effort in the Bulldogs' road victory over No. 14 Lenoir-Rhyne. Wayne State redshirt sophomore placekicker Griffin Milovanski claimed GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week accolades for scoring 12 points (3-of-3 field goals, and 3-of-3 PATs) in the Warriors' home win over Shaw.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Tariq Reid, Grand Valley State
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Caleb Murphy, Ferris State
Ferris State University All-America defensive end Caleb Murphy had a memorable day on Saturday as the top-ranked Bulldogs dominated 14th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne defensively in a 27-5 road win in Hickory, N.C. The Bulldogs held the Bears to only 94 yards of total offense and 16 rushing yards while forcing two third-quarter turnovers that led directly to scores. Murphy paced the Bulldogs with a team-high 12 tackles and added six tackles for loss (-38 yards) and five quarterback sacks (-37 yards) in addition to forcing a fumble. Nine of his 12 stops were unassisted efforts. His play helped FSU tally seven sacks en route to the Bulldogs' school-record 16th consecutive victory overall and 40th-straight regular-season road win. His five sacks set a school single-game record and his play helped the FSU defense hold the Bears to a 1-16 showing on third down.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Griffin Milovanski, Wayne State
Griffin Milovanski tallied 12 points (3-of-3 field goals, and 3-of-3 PATs) in the 30-22 triumph over Shaw. Milovanski's third field goal marked the first time since November 4, 2017 (Paul Graham vs. Northern Michigan) that a WSU kicker made at least three field goals in a game (Graham made four in a 26-24 triumph over the Wildcats). His first field goal of 48 yards was tied-for-ninth longest in program history. The 12 points scored by kicking is tied-for-fifth in school history, and is the most since the aforementioned Paul Graham had 14 points against NMU.
