GVSU's Peterson and DU's Floyd and Gielow earn GLIAC Football Player of the Week honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following week nine of the 2022 football season. Grand Valley State junior quarterback Cade Peterson received the offensive player of the week honor while Davenport senior defensive back Shaq Floyd was named defensive player of the week and sophomore kicker Brandon Gielow claimed special teams accolades. 


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Cade Peterson, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State junior QB Cade Peterson turned in a record-setting day as the #1-ranked Lakers claimed a 42-7 victory at Michigan Tech. Peterson completed 18-of-19 passes for 304 yards and two TDs, while rushing for 64 yards on six carries. Cade set a GVSU single-game record by completing his first 16 passes, while his 94.7 percent completion percentage also set a GLIAC and GVSU single-game record. Cade also eclipsed the 1,000-yard career rushing mark, becoming just the fourth Laker QB all-time to rush for over 1,000 yards and pass for over 4,000 yards. Peterson completed 12 passes of 10 yards or more, including eight of 15 yards or more at Michigan Tech.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Shaq Floyd, Davenport

Senior defensive back Shaq Floyd had three tackles but two of those were for a loss in the Panthers' 29-28 win over No. 23 Saginaw Valley State on the road to improve to 8-0, 4-0 GLIAC. Floyd also forced a fumble and picked off his third pass of the season with five return yards. That INT set up a touchdown in the third quarter. It was his seventh career INT which is third-best in DU history.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Brandon Gielow, Davenport

Sophomore kicker Brandon Gielow connected on three field goals in the 29-28 win over No. 23 Saginaw Valley State on Saturday. He made his first three attempts and the fourth was blocked, making him 9-of-10 on the season in field goals. He was good from 38 yards in the first quarter, 21 yards in the second quarter, and 25 yards in the third quarter. He finished with 11 points after making both PAT's. He set the single-season record with nine field goals in 2022.
