2022 GLIAC Football Gameday - NCAA Division II Championship First Round

GLIAC -- League rivals from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) will square off on Saturday, Nov. 19 in a first round game of the NCAA Division II Championship. Ferris State (9-1), the No. 2 seed in Super Region Three, will host Davenport (8-2) at Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich. Kick off is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Ferris State, the defending national champion, is making its eighth consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II playoffs. FSU has made five-straight NCAA Division II National Quarterfinal appearances and is currently one of only four teams in all of college football to win at least 11 games each of the previous seven years.

Guided by the 2022 GLIAC Coach of the Year, Sparky McEwen, a Bulldog alum and former FSU assistant, Davenport earned its first-ever postseason berth. The Panthers won their first eight games before closing the regular-season with setbacks against FSU and Grand Valley State.

A combined 24 2022 All-GLIAC First and Second Team selections will be showcased on the field on Saturday, including Ferris State defensive end Caleb Murphy, the player of the year, and quarterback Carson Gulker, the freshman of the year.

The winner advances to the second round to meet No. 3 Pittsburg State or UIndy on Saturday, Nov. 26.

Ferris State won the regular season matchup with Davenport, 28-7, in Big Rapids.
