BAY CITY, Mich. -- The 2015 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Basketball Preseason Coaches' Poll and All-Conference Awards have been unveiled prior to the start of the new season. All of the exciting action begins on Friday, Nov. 13th with conference play beginning Thursday, Dec. 3rd.
Hillsdale senior forward Kyle Cooper was chosen as the 2015 GLIAC Men's Basketball Preseason Player of the Year after averaging 20.5 points and 10.3 rebounds per contest. Cooper averaged 34.8 minutes per contest and displayed offensive efficiency shooting over 54.2 percent from the field, including 40.8 percent from three-point range.
Saginaw Valley State (21-6, 16-6 GLIAC) earned 108 points and 13 first-place votes to reign atop the North Division polling. The Cardinals return a pair of all-conference performers from last year in juniors C.J. Turnage (14.1 pts/5.9 reb/60.5 pct) and Garrett Hall (13.8 pts/3.9 reb/42 pct). Ferris State was ranked second with 97 points in front of Lake Superior State with 72 points and one first-place tally. Grand Valley State appeared at No. 4 in the North Division with 57 points, while Hillsdale and Northwood both received 56 points with the Chargers claiming two first-place votes. Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan round out the North Division in No. 7 and No. 8, respectively.
The Ashland Eagles (19-10, 13-9 GLIAC) are led by all-region selection junior forward Wendell Davis who amassed 17.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per contest. Ashland collected 103 points and eight first-place votes to finish one point ahead of Findlay with 102 points and five first-place nods. The Cavaliers from Walsh amassed 99 points and the final three first-place votes in the South Division. Wayne State ranked No. 4 with 60 points, while Ohio Dominican (45), Lake Erie (44), Tiffin (42) and Malone (25) completed the South balloting.
