Michigan Tech's Monroe Named USBWA Division II National Player of the Week

USBWA -- Michigan Tech junior forward Kyle Monroe was selected the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Division II Men's Basketball Player of the Week after the 6-foot-5, 205-pound forward averaged 36.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists to lead Michigan Tech to GLIAC victories over Davenport University and Northern Michigan University last week. Monroe scored a career-high 41 points in a 71-64 neutral-court win over Davenport, hitting 13-of-23 shots from the field including 6-for-11 on three-pointers. He added 31 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists in a 77-66 win at home over Northern Michigan.

For the week, Monroe shot 51 percent (23-for-45) from the field, 53 percent (8-for-15) from beyond the arc, and 86 percent (18-for-21) from the free throw line. He has scored more than 30 points seven times this season and leads the GLIAC in scoring by a margin of over five points, averaging 26.2 points per game. He ranks third in the GLIAC in rebounding with 7.9 rebounds per game for the Huskies, who have won three straight to improve to 10-9 overall (7-5 GLIAC).

Monroe's honor makes it back-to-back national player of the week awards for the GLIAC following Mike Wells Jr. from Saginaw Valley earning it the previous week.
