Michigan Tech's Monroe, Davenport's Smith Capture GLIAC Men's Basketball Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the fourth weekend of the 2017 men's basketball season and first week of league action. Michigan Tech junior forward Kyle Monroe earned GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division honors, while Davenport freshman forward Delano Smith captured South Division accolades.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Kyle Monroe, Michigan Tech

Michigan Tech junior forward Kyle Monroe had another great week for the Huskies, leading Tech to a pair of GLIAC wins. Monroe averaged 30.5 points in the two games. knocked down 57.5% of his field goals and 57.1% of his three-point shots. Monroe logged his second double-double of the season thanks to 32 points and 12 rebounds in Saturday's win over Northwood. Monroe hauled down a combined total of 18 rebounds, had seven assists, and seven steals this past week. On the season, Monroe is averaging 25.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. He has been successful on 54.3% of his field goal attempts through eight games.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Delano Smith, Davenport

Davenport freshman forward Delano Smith stepped up in two wins to start conference play this week. He averaged 18 points and shot 71.4 percent from the floor (15-of-21) this week. In DU's 40-point win over Purdue Northwest, Smith scored 19 points on 9-of-11 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds. He also had three assists and a pair of steals in 28 minutes. He then scored a team-high 17 points in an 11-point win over Grand Valley State on Saturday. He helped DU get out to an 8-0 lead and the Lakers did not score for the first 5:41 of the contest.
