Saginaw Valley's Wells, Michigan Tech's Monroe Selected GLIAC Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly men's basketball awards following Week 9 of the 2017-18 campaign. Michigan Tech senior forward Kyle Monroe earned GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division honors for the third time this season, while Saginaw Valley senior guard Mike Wells Jr. captured South Division accolades.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Kyle Monroe, Michigan Tech

Michigan Tech senior forward Kyle Monroe had another huge game for the Huskies in a 76-66 win at Wayne State on Thursday night. The victory snapped a six game losing skid for the Huskies. Monroe fired in 34 points and its this fifth time this season he has scored 32 or more points in a game. He went 16 of 17 at the free throw line, which all occurred in the second half. He also converted 9 of 17 shots from the field, grabbed eight rebounds, made three steals, and dished out four assists. On the season, Monroe leads the GLIAC in scoring at 25.0 points per game and is averaging 8.1 rebounds along with 2.5 assists per contest. 


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Mike Wells Jr., Saginaw Valley

Saginaw Valley senior guard Mike Wells Jr. had a huge weekend in leading the Cardinals to a 2-0 record with home victories over Ashland and Tiffin. Wells averaged 27.0 ppg, adding 5.0 apg and 3.0 rpg as SVSU now has three straight wins. The highlight of the weekend was Wells's career-high 35 point performance in Thursday's win over the Eagles, where he went for 31 points in the second half, scoring 21 straight for Saginaw Valley in leading them to the victory over the division leaders.
