GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport won a wild game against the Crusaders of Great Lakes Christian College 105-77. The game saw a total of 73 combined threes attempted between the two teams and 27 turnovers. The Panthers won the war on the boards, snagging 52 team rebounds compared to only 23 by Great Lakes Christian. Sophomore Avery Hudson had a great game, he scored 23 points, shot 8/12 from the field (5/6 from three), grabbed 11 rebounds and had four assists. The win marks the fourth straight for Davenport to open the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Crusaders scored the initial bucket of the game, a three by Ethen Russell. Davenport proceeded to score 13 unanswered points to take a 13-3 lead over Great Lakes Christian. The lead was cut down to five (18-13) after the Crusaders hit two straight free throws. The Panthers rattled off 14 straight points to take a commanding 19-point lead. During the stretch Chris Rollins and Janeau Joubert scored all 14 of the points. The largest lead of the half for Davenport was 26, after Hudson hit a three in transition and then Delano Smith made a layup to make the score 49-23. The Panthers went into halftime leading by 20-points, 51-31 over the Crusaders.
The second half was fast paced and extremely wild. Great Lakes Christian attempted 30 three pointers during the 20-minute second half, with 10 of those being shot by Lance Adams. The Panthers continued to box out extremely well in the half despite all the quick shots by the Crusaders. Davenport recorded 28 team rebounds in the second half alone, giving up only three offensive rebounds to Great Lakes Christian. Hudson almost had a double double in the second half alone, grabbing nine rebounds on his own and scoring 12 points. The lead reached 30-points after a thunderous dunk by Zack Nieuwkoop, who had no regard for the Crusader dunker who got in his way. Robbie Bramhill led the Panthers in scoring during the half, going perfect from the field for 14 points.

UP NEXT
The Panthers head down south to Daytona Beach, Florida for a pair of games over the weekend. Davenport will take on Lees-McRae College on Friday and then either Embry-Riddle or Puerto Rico-Mayaguez on Saturday. The games will be at the ICI Center.
