LSSU's Adams and SVSU's Belyeu are named men's basketball players of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced player of the week awards for Week 13 of the 2018-19 men's basketball season. Lake Superior State junior guard Malek Adams earned GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division Player of the Week honors, while Saginaw Valley State freshman guard Myles Belyeu was named GLIAC South Division Player of the Week.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Malek Adams - Lake Superior State

Junior guard Malek Adams (Grand Ledge, Mich.) averaged 19.5 points per game on 54.8 percent shooting with 5.5 rebounds per game and 2.5 assists per game to help Lake Superior State to a 2-0 record on the week. Adams began the week with 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting with four rebounds and two assists in the Lakers' 90-66 home win over Wayne State on Thursday evening. He added 21 points on 10-of-18 shooting with seven rebounds and three assists during Lake Superior State's 77-66 victory over No. 15 Ashland on Saturday afternoon at Bud Cooper Gymnasium. With his performance against Ashland, Adams has eclipsed the 20-point plateau in 10 games this season, while scoring in double figures 15 times. Adams ranks fourth in the GLIAC in overall scoring, averaging 17.9 ppg, and fifth in three-point field-goal percentage at 45.6.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Myles Belyeu - Saginaw Valley State

Freshman guard Myles Belyeu (Trotwood, Ohio) averaged 28.0 points per game and 4.5 rebounds per game while leading the Cardinals to a 1-1 record last week. Belyeu, who averages a team-leading 18.6 ppg to rank third in the GLIAC in overall scoring, recorded his second 30-point performance of the season on Saturday, registering 30 points while grabbing five boards in the team's 75-54 victory at Michigan Tech. He totaled 26 points and four rebounds during an 87-73 loss at Northern Michigan.
