Davenport clinches GLIAC regular-season men's basketball title

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – All the stars aligned for Davenport Saturday, with Saginaw Valley beating Ashland by three points and the Panthers defeating Northern Michigan, 74-71.

The win notched the Panthers 16th Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win of the season, two more than any other GLIAC team with only one game left on everyone's schedule. The championship is the first regular-season title for Davenport in any sport since joining the GLIAC in the 2017-18 season. DU has won 10 straight GLIAC contests.

Davenport completes regular-season play Thursday at Grand Valley State before beginning GLIAC Tournament play next week. DU is 23-3 overall and 16-3 in the GLIAC. Second-place Ashland is 14-5, and followed by Ferris State and Ashland, who are 14-7. All four teams secured home-court advantage for the first round of the playoffs, which begin Tuesday, March 5.
