LSSU's Marquardt and Ashland's Noble claim season's final weekly awards

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced player of the week awards for Week 16 of the 2018-19 men's basketball season. Lake Superior State senior forward Blake Marquardt earned GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division Player of the Week honors, while Ashland junior center Drew Noble was named GLIAC South Division Player of the Week for the second time this season.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Blake Marquardt - Lake Superior State

Senior forward Blake Marquardt (Oshkosh, Wis.) scored a game-high 26 points as Lake Superior State defeated Ferris State 86-66 on Thursday night at Bud Cooper Gymnasium. With the win, the Lakers earned the sixth seed in the GLIAC Tournament. Marquardt shot 58.3 percent (7-of-12) from the field and was 6-of-9 on three-point shots. He also went a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. Marquardt tallied three rebounds and one steal. With his six made three-pointers, Marquardt moved into a tie for eighth with Jordan Dasuqi (2013-17) on LSSU's career three-pointers list (205).


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Drew Noble - Ashland

Junior center Drew Noble (Louisville, Ohio) scored 18 points, collected 14 rebounds and blocked three shots in the Eagles' 70-63 win over Wayne State last Thursday in the regular season finale. He had 10 points and nine rebounds in the second half alone. Noble also had one assist and one steal in the game. Noble is sixth in the GLIAC in scoring (17.4), fourth in blocks (33), third in field goals (177) and fourth in free throws (113).
