Lakers emerge from No. 7 seed to win GLIAC Tournament

GRAND RAPIDS - After entering the 2019 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament as the No. 7 seed, Grand Valley State stormed through the field with a 3-0 recording, including an 80-70 victory over No. 1 seed Davenport during Sunday's championship game.

Jeremiah Ferguson scored 27 points, Hunter Hale 20 and Isaiah Brock 10 to lead the Lakers (19-12), who earned the GLIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Brock and Hale also totaled eight rebounds each, and Hale and Ferguson combined for nine assists. Ferguson scored 16 second-half points.

Dyllon Hudson-Emory and Janeau Joubert scored 18 points each to lead Davenport.

Davenport (27-4) tied the game, 38-38, three minutes into the second half and led by seven with 14:48 to go. The Lakers reclaimed the lead, 52-51, with 8:38 remaining after a 9-0 run. They led for good with 5:28 to go.

It's GVSU's seventh GLIAC Men's Basketball Tournament title and first since 2008. The Lakers have won seven of their last eight games.
