MTU's Bilski, GVSU's Van Tubbergen Earn Men's Basketball Players of the Week Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following week ten of the 2019-20 men's basketball season. Michigan Tech junior guard Dawson Bilski earned GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division Player of the Week honors, while Grand Valley St. junior forward Jake Van Tubbergen was named GLIAC South Division Player of the Week.

NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Dawson Bilski - Michigan Tech

Dawson Bilski helped lead the Huskies to two huge wins this week over Lake Superior State and 8th ranked Ferris State. Bilski averaged 25 points for the two games and poured in a career high 29 points against the Lakers on Thursday. He scored the Huskies first 14 points in the game on Thursday against Lake Superior State. Bilski connected on 17 of 24 field goals (70.8%) and fired in 11 of his 12 three-point attempts for the week (91.7%) combined for the week. In addition, Bilski averaged five rebounds per game, dished out two combined assists, and came up with two steals. On the season, Bilski is averaging 15.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.

SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jake Van Tubbergen - Grand Valley St.

Jake Van Tubbergen has been named the GLIAC South Player of the Week for the fourth time this season after leading Grand Valley State to a 2-0 weekend that catapults the Lakers into sole possession of first place in the conference. Van Tubbergen recorded his ninth double-double of the season on Thursday, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds while playing a big role defensively as the Lakers stifled Northwood in a 61-45 win; the lowest scoring total by an opponent this season. He then scored 16 points, going 8-for-15 from the field, and snagged nine boards as the Lakers won in wire-to-wire fashion, 75-61, on the road over Saginaw Valley State. The Lakers defense has held GLIAC opponents to 70 points or less in 16 of the last 17 games, including last year’s GLIAC Tournament, dating back to last season.
