MTU's Monroe, AU's Noble Named Men's Basketball Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the final week of GLIAC regular season play.  Michigan Tech senior guard Kyle Monroe was named GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division Player of the Week, while Ashland senior center Drew Noble earned GLIAC South Division Player of the Week honors.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kyle Monroe - Michigan Tech 

Kyle Monroe helped lead the Huskies to their four straight win and 20th overall victory of the season in Tech’s 91-61 triumph over rival Northern Michigan Thursday night. Monroe, who hails from Green Bay, Wisconsin, led all scorers Thursday night with 32 points, connecting on 11 of 20 shots from the field, including 6 of 8 from behind the three-point arc. Monroe also collected seven rebounds, dished out three assists, had two steals, and two blocked shots for the Huskies. In addition, Monroe established a new Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference career scoring record at the conclusion of the game. The GLIAC records are based on regular season conference games and during his four-year career, Monroe fired in 1,875 points in those contests. Monroe leads the GLIAC in scoring this year, averaging 23.1 ppg. He ranks among the top 10 in three-pointers (67), free-throw percentage (78.4), free throws (109), total rebounds (193) and steals (41). He is ranked 19th nationally in scoring. 


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Drew Noble- Ashland

Ashland University senior center Drew Noble was named the GLIAC South Player of the Week the league office announced on Monday (March 2) afternoon. It is the third time Noble has won the award in his career, having taken the honor twice in the 2018-19 season. He is the second AU player to win it this season after senior guard Rodrick Caldwell won it on Feb. 10. Noble was a dominant force in the Eagles’ 83-63 win at Wayne State that clinched a GLIAC Tournament spot. He scored a season-high 30 points and collected 10 rebounds in the win as the Eagles outscored the Warriors in the paint, 54-24. He set a career high in made field goals, going 13-for-23 from the field, and reached the 30-point mark for the second time in his career. Noble now has three double-doubles on the season and 14 in his career. This season, Noble is averaging 16.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 53 percent from the floor and 73 percent from the line.
