MTU's Monroe, NU's Jelinek Named Men's Basketball Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following week four of the 2019-20 men's basketball season. Michigan Tech senior forward Kyle Monroe earned GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division Player of the Week honors, while Northwood senior forward David Jelinek was named GLIAC South Division Player of the Week.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kyle Monroe - Michigan Tech 

Senior Kyle Monroe had a huge week, helping lead the Huskies to a pair of wins at the Seawolf Thanksgiving Classic hosted by Alaska Anchorage. Tech rallied for wins both nights with Monroe pouring in 26 points in an 83-80 victory over Anchorage followed by 15 points against Fairbanks in a 65-57 triumph. Monroe converted on 48.4 percent of his shots from the field in the two games combined while producing 10 rebounds, seven assists, and three steals over the course of two games. Monroe was named the "Most Outstanding Player" of the tournament. On the season, Monroe leads the Huskies in scoring at 21.3 points per game while hauling down a team high 6.8 rebounds each time he takes the floor. In addition, Monroe is dishing out 2.3 assists per game this season.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: David Jelinek - Northwood

 David Jelinek had a career day for Northwood in a 75-71 win over Cedarville, finishing with 27 points, six rebounds and three assists. The senior center finished 11-12 from the floor in the game. Jelinek currently leads the GLIAC in field goal percentage at 84.0 percent (21-25).
