MTU's White, WSU's Neeley Earn GLIAC Men's Basketball Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the seventh week of the Men's Basketball season. Michigan Tech junior guard Owen White claimed GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division Player of the Week, while Wayne State senior guard Brailen Neely captured South Division accolades.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Owen White -Michigan Tech

In three games over the past seven days, White combined for 72 total points and 21 rebounds and the Huskies went 2-1. Tuesday night, White scored 22 points in a win over Northern Michigan and shot 9-for-14 (64-percent) from the field with four 3-pointers on seven attempts. Friday night, White posted 20 points with seven rebounds over his team high 33 minutes on the court. White was especially impressive in Saturday's road victory over Grand Valley State. He tallied a career high 30 points (11-for-23), including a pair of threes and went 6-for-7 from the free throw line. White also narrowly missed a double-double with nine rebounds. He has nine games of 20 or more points this winter and double-figures in all 14 games played.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Brailen Neely - Wayne State

Senior guard Brailen Neely (Detroit, Mich. / Western International) helped Wayne State go 3-0 with a win at Ashland plus a sweep of Saginaw Valley State.  He totaled 57 points (19.0 PPG), 18 assists (6.0 APG) and 17 rebounds (5.7 RPG) in the three victories. Neely shot 59 percent from the floor in 20-of-34, 46 percent from behind the arc (5-of-11) and did not miss a free throw in 12 attempts.  He had a pair of 20-point performances, including 23 points in the Friday win over SVSU.  On Saturday, Neely went 7-for-8 from the floor to finish with 21 points.   It is the second weekly GLIAC award of his career.
