• GLIAC Announces Spring 2009 All-Academic Teams

    Bay City, Mich.--The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced today the Spring 2009 All-Academic Teams. 564 student-athletes from twelve institutions were honored in the following sports; baseball, softball, men and women's golf, men's tennis and men and women's outdoor track and field. To be eligible for all-academic status, the student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0, on a 4.0 scale, and must not be a freshman or first year transfer.

    BLAINE, Wash. - Wayne State University senior golfer Steve Cuzzort (Grosse Ile, Mich.) and Ferris State University senior Kelbi Lee (Billings, Mont.) were selected to the Division II PING All-America teams, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America following Friday's final round of the NCAA Championship.

    The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced the Spring 2009 recipients of the GLIAC Commissioner’s Awards for Academic and Athletic Excellence. The awards, sponsored by Meijer, Incorporated, are presented after the Fall, Winter, and Spring athletic seasons to six male and six female student-athletes that excel both in the classroom and on the fields of play. The Awards were announced in conjunction with the release of the GLIAC Spring All-Academic Teams in which student-athletes were honored for their efforts.

Wayne State finished in 13th place following the conclusion of the fourth and final round of the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championship.

The Warriors shot 297 in Wednesday's final round at The Meadows for a three-day score of 859, six strokes ahead of Northeastern State (293--865).

    Bay City, Mich.-- The second round of the 2008 GLIAC Men's Golf Championship hosted by Saginaw Valley State University at the Bay City Country Club could not be completed today due to darkness. The second round will resume at 9:30 a.m. on Monday morning. The 54-hole event will conclude on Monday with the third round beginning at approximately 11:00 a.m. Final round tee times will be posted at approximately 10:30 a.m.

    Houston, Tx. - Grand Valley State University's men's golf team finished its season with a 14th place finish in the NCAA National Championships. Josh Orler led the Lakers, shooting a 72 on the fourth day and finishing with a four-day total of 285, tying him for 18th place. GVSU finished the meet with a four-day total of 1156.

    Sophomore Eric Lilleboe of Ferris State University was named the 2008 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men’s Golf “Athlete of the Year.” University of Findlay rookie Joe McGeean earned the conference’s “Freshman of the Year” title, while Al Baker of the University of Findlay was tabbed “Coach of the Year.”
