NASHPORT, Ohio -- The Ferris State Bulldogs, led by senior Ben Cook, recorded a 295 (+7) total in Round One of the 2017 GLIAC Men's Golf Championships at The Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio. Cook posted four birdies and two bogeys, including a back-nine total of 2-under par 34.

Ferris State leads by four strokes over Grand Valley State who fired 299 (+11) and were paced by Owen Rush who fired 3-over par 75 playing out of the No. 5 position. The two-time defending champion Tiffin Dragons are positioned third after a 302 total on day one and were led by Tomas Krivanec and Brett Green who both carded 75s. Ashland and Northern Michigan are tied for fourth place with 308 totals.

Hillsdale's Joe Pietila sits in second place after Friday action after he recorded an even-par round of 72 despite making double bogey on his final hole of the day -- No. 9, a 187-yard Par 3 that played to almost a full stroke over par on day one - the most difficult on the golf course. GVSU's Owen Rush and Walsh's Nick Colangelo sit tied for third with one-over par 73s, while Ferris State's Jack Weller, Northern Michigan's Austin Elsner and Grand Valley State's Bryce Messner all posted 75 on the opening day of the championships.

Action resumes with 8:00 a.m. morning tee times on Saturday for the men. This year marks the first time the men's and women's championships have both been held at the same site.
