Grand Valley State Captures 2017 GLIAC Men's Golf Championship; Hillsdale's Pietila Claims Medalist Honors

2017 GLIAC Men's Golf Championship Results

NASHPORT, Ohio -- Grand Valley State captued the 2017 GLIAC Men's Golf Championship by 11 strokes hosted at The Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio. The Lakers recorded a 9-over par round of 297 to finish at +26 overall with an 890 total for the week.

Grand Valley State was led by Bryce Messner who finished tied for second at 6-over par following a final round 74, while Domenic Mancinelli posted a Sunday 76 to finish T4 at +7 for the championship. Alex Scott, last year's runner up in a playoff, fired a one-under par 71 in the final round to complete the week at +8 tied for sixth place. GVSU's Owen Rush finished T15 at 11-over par for the week, while Alex Nannetti finished 19th to put all five Laker inside the Top 20 individuals.

Hillsdale's Joel Pietila captured medalist honors following an even-par round of 72 on Sunday consisting of three birdies and three bogeys. Pietila posted his +4 overall total in the clubhouse and his competition was unable to claw back to the top of the leaderboard. Pietila finished the event at 220 total, including rounds of 72-76-72.

Tiffin University finished third at +40 for the event and were paced by Jordan Bollenbacher who tied for second at +6 for the championships after a final round of even-par 72. The round of the week went to Tiffin's Tomas Krivanec who carded a three-under par 69 with four birdies and a bogey to vault himself into a tie for fourth at +7. The Dragons matched Grand Valley State for the best team score on Sunday with a +9 total of 297.

Saginaw Valley State finished in fourth position at +50 for the event, while Findlay moved up four positions on the final day at +58 for the tournament.

Hole No. 1 played the most difficult on Sunday to the tune of +0.72 over par, while No. 9 was the toughest throughout the week at +0.84 strokes over par. The Par 5 10th was the easiest hole of the week and the lone hole to play under par.
