Ferris State's Hammett Wins Regional; Claims Athlete of the Week Honors

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its third weekly awards for the 2017 men's golf spring season. Ferris State sophomore Andrew Hammett has been named GLIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Week after he won the Music City Regional in Nashville.


ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Andrew Hammett, Ferris State

The Bulldogs' Andrew Hammett, playing in the No. 5 position for Ferris State, tied Bellarmine's James Inman for the individual championship and eventually came out on top in a sudden death playoff to earn medalist honors. Hammett shot a 140 figure to finish -4 for the tournament with identical scores of two-under par 70 each round. He claimed the sudden death playoff on the second hole with a birdie on the par 5, 600-yard number 11 after both competitors tied on the first playoff hole.

Grand Valley State captured the team title thanks to an impressive 7-under par final round team score of 281. Freshman Owen Rush backed up his first round 79 with a final round 66 (-6) to propel the Lakers to a three-stroke victory over Indianapolis, while Tiffin finished third seven shots back.
