NASHPORT, Ohio -- Grand Valley State captured the 2018 GLIAC Men's Golf Championship by 13 strokes hosted at The Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio. GVSU recorded a 2-over par round of 290 to finish at +20 overall with an 884 total for the week. It marks the eighth time the Lakers have taken home the title, including back-to-back years after GVSU hoisted the trophy in 2017 as well. 

Ferris State's Andrew Hammett, who posted a 3-under par 69 in the final round to jump to +1 for the week, earned medalist honors after a two-hole playoff victory over GVSU's Alex Scott. Hammett started on the back nine shooting 37 before turning to the front and making four birdies on his way to a 4-under par 32. Scott carded a 2-under par final round 70 and fell back into a playoff after he bogeyed his final three holes in regulation.

Ashland's Austin Kondratick, Wayne State's Nikolas Senkowski and GVSU's Mitchell White all finished tied-for-third place at 4-over par for the championship. Wayne State (+33) finished runner-up in the team competition after a 3-under par final round as a team, highlighted by a 3-under par round of 69 from Kyle Rybicki. The Tiffin Dragons finished third at +44, while Saginaw Valley and Ashland shared fourth place at +50 total.

Scoring conditions were perfect on Sunday as six players carded under-par rounds with four more posting even-par 72. The final round played to a scoring average of 76.94 compared to over 79 in Friday's first round.
