GLIAC — Grand Valley State junior Alex Scott has been named 2018 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Golf Player of the Year as announced by the conference office on Thursday (April 26). Tiffin's Noah Barth earned Freshman of the Year honors, while Grand Valley State's Gary Bissell captured Coach of the Year accolades after guiding the Lakers to back-to-back GLIAC Men's Golf Championships.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Alex Scott - Grand Valley State
Grand Valley State University's Alex Scott has been named the GLIAC Men's Golfer of the Year after posting a stellar junior season where he helped guide the Lakers to their second GLIAC Championship in as many years. Throughout the season, Scott played in 10 events, finishing inside the top-10 nine times and inside the top-20 one time, including individual titles at the Findlay Invitational, Kyle Ryman Memorial Invitational, and the Greyhound Invitational, while finishing as the runner-up in the GLIAC Tournament. On the season, the Traverse City, Mich. native played in 24 rounds and carded an average of 70.95. Scott is now a three-time All-GLIAC honoree, having been placed on the first team each of the last two seasons.
FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR: Noah Barth - Tiffin
Noah Barth enjoyed a tremendous debut season for the Tiffin University men's golf program, leading the team with an 11th place finish at the GLIAC Championships. Barth, a native of Helsingborg, Sweden, led the Dragons throughout the 2017-18 season, averaging 73.94 in varsity play to lead the team. He also posted four Top 4 finishes over the season, including a third place finish at the Saginaw Valley State Spring Invitational.
COACH OF THE YEAR: Gary Bissell - Grand Valley State
Grand Valley State's Gary Bissell has been named the GLIAC Coach of the Year for the second season in a row. Bissell guided the Lakers to their second straight GLIAC Championship, as well as the team title at the Al Watrous Invitational during the fall season. Of the 10 tournaments the Lakers took part in this past season, they never finished below fourth place, while finishing second five times, third two times, and fourth just once.
