Ferris State's Weller, Grand Valley State's Chipman Selected GLIAC Golfers of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the fourth week of tournaments. Ferris State senior Jack Weller claimed top honors in men's action, while Grand Valley State junior Katie Chipman earned accolades on the women's side.

MEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Jack Weller - Ferris State

Ferris State senior Jack Weller earned medalist honors in the 2018 Hawkshead Invitational held this past weekend in South Haven. Weller became the second Bulldog senior this year to claim medalist honors in an event as he carded a two-round 138 total in the 36-hole event at Hawkshead Links. Weller shot a 70 in round one followed by a 68 in round two while recording a two-shot victory on the par 72 course. Weller finished a six-under par for the tournament on the 6,998 yard course and moved up three spots on the final day to earn the win.

WOMEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Katie Chipman - Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State junior Katie Chipman took home top honors at the 10th Annual Gilda’s Club Laker Fall Classic on the teams’ home course. Chipman carded a round one 79 before firing a second round 72 to finish with a seven-over 151 on the weekend. Her 72 on the second day of play was the lowest score on a cold and rainy afternoon and was the tie-breaker to secure the individual trophy, as she tied with teammate Olivia Reed and UIndy’s Kennedy Holtsclaw.

Chipman’s strong showing helped the Lakers to a second place finish overall in the 13-team event, as they finished with a 41-over, 617 on the weekend.
