SVSU's Marston, GVSU's White Earn GLIAC Golfer of the Week Accolades

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the third week of tournaments to kickoff the 2018-19 season. Grand Valley State senior Mitchell White claimed top honors in men's action, while Saginaw Valley State junior Alexa Marston earned accolades on the women's side.

WOMEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Alexa Marston - Saginaw Valley

Saginaw Valley State junior Alexa Marston led the Cardinals to a runner-up finish at the 2018 CT Classic, hosted by Ohio Dominican at the Cumberland Trail Golf Course in Pataskala, Ohio. Marston posted rounds of 74-75, carding a career-low score of 149 for the weekend to finish in third place overall. Saginaw Valley put together rounds of 310-314 in the event, marking a new 36-hole record for the third year program.

MEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Mitchell White - Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State senior Mitchell White earned his second collegiate victory over the weekend after taking home top honors at the Doc Spragg Invitational, hosted by Findlay, at Findlay Country Club. The Muskegon, Mich. native shot a 3-under, 141 after two rounds of 72 and 69. The invitational, which was supposed to be three rounds, was cut short due to weather after the first day so White’s score stood as the best of the 90-golfer tournament.

White’s first place finish also helped the GVSU team to a tie for first place with Indianapolis, as the two teams carded 2-under, 574’s to lead the 18-team pack.

HONORABLE MENTION: Eric Nunn (GVSU), Ben Jones (AU), Jack Weller (FSU), Hannah Meloche (DU), Meredith Weidner (WSU), Anastassia Lee (WSU)
