Wayne State's Prince, Ashland's Hemleben Named GLIAC Golfers of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced it's weekly awards following the fifth week of the 2019 Season. Ashland junior Sophie Hemleben claimed top honors in women's action, while Wayne State senior Matt Prince earned accolades on the men's side.


WOMEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Sophie Hemleben - Ashland

For the first time in her Ashland University career, junior Sophie Hemleben has been named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week. Hemleben earned the Week 5 honor on Thursday (Oct. 10) thanks to a showing at Findlay’s William Beall Fall Classic which is one of the best 54-hole scores in Ashland women’s golf history. In finishing in a tie for fourth place on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 7-8), Hemleben was 72-75-76, and her total of 223 is tied for the fourth-lowest three-round score in program annals. In four fall events and eight fall rounds, Hemleben is averaging a score of 76.63, and has three top-10 individual placements (second at Gannon, tied for eighth at Ferris State and tied for fourth at Findlay).


MEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Matt Prince - Wayne State

Redshirt senior Matt Prince (Oxford, Mich.) has been named the GLIAC Golfer of the Week as announced by the league on Wednesday.  He won the Northwood Invitational on Monday by shooting a 212 (71, 69, 72) to collect his first collegiate victory.
