GLIAC -- Three GLIAC schools and one individual are among the field of 80 teams and 32 student-athletes that have been selected to participate in regional competition of the 2022 NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championships.
Grand Valley State (2), Wayne State (6) and GLIAC champion Davenport (10) will compete in the Central/Midwest Region, to be hosted by the University of Indianapolis at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind., from May 5-7.
Purdue Northwest senior Alex Bishop, who set the school single-season record with a 73.85 scoring average through 20 rounds in 2021-22, earned an individual bid to the NCAA regionals.
At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional will advance to the finals May 16-20 at TPC Michigan in Detroit, Mich. The remaining eight team berths will be allocated based on the regions represented in the prior year’s head-to-head medal play portion of the championships, with the maximum number of teams from a given region capped at seven. The finals will be hosted by Wayne State and the Detroit Sports Commission.
