Purdue Northwest's Bahena, Northwood's Cecchini Claim GLIAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the ninth and final week of the 2018 men's soccer regular season. Purdue Northwest sophomore forward Matt Bahena earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Northwood junior goalkeeper Corbin Cecchini claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Matt Bahena - Purdue Northwest

Purdue Northwest sophomore forward Matt Bahena led the Pride to a 4-3 victory over Davenport University for their fourth-straight GLIAC victory. Bahena not only scored a goal in the 14th minute of the first half, but recorded the assist that led to the game-winning goal over the Panthers in 92nd minute of overtime. PNW will be the No. 3 seed in this week's GLIAC Tournament and host a quarterfinal match on Tuesday (Oct. 30) against No. 6 Ashland.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Corbin Cecchini - Northwood

Northwood junior goalkeeper Corbin Cecchini registered five saves in a 2-1 home victory over Northern Michigan on the final day of the regular season. The victory clinched home field for the Timberwolves and a rematch this Tuesday (Oct. 30) in Midland between the same two programs in the 2018 GLIAC Men's Soccer Tournament Quarterfinals.
