2021 GLIAC MEN'S SOCCER TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
GLIAC – The 2021 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Soccer awards have been announced after voting conducted by the league's coaches.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR - Danny Barlow, Saginaw Valley St.
In his first season with the Cardinals after transferring from the University of Denver, Barlow scored a team-high 10 goals, the best in the GLIAC. Barlow also added three assists and a team-high 36 shots, starting all nine games for the Cardinals.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR - Robbie Baker, Saginaw Valley St.
Baker helped lead the Cardinals to a GLIAC regular-season title, as the SVSU defense allowed just seven goals in nine games. Baker added a goal in a crucial early season win over the University of Wisconsin Parkside.
FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR - Rafael Pereira, Ashland
Winger Rafael Pereira is Ashland's first GLIAC Freshman of the Year since defender Mitch Deyhle earned the distinction in 2009. Pereira was a dynamic attacking presence in his first season in an AU uniform as the Eagles consistently played through him on the wing. He had a goal and three assists through the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinal game in which he assisted on one of AU's three second-half goals. He also scored and assisted in Ashland's 4-0 win over Davenport in the regular season finale, earning him GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
GOALKEEPER OF THE YEAR - Mason Maziasz, Saginaw Valley St.
Maziasz allowed just seven goals in net this season for the Cardinals, which led the GLIAC. He started all nine games, recorded four shutouts, and finished with 16 saves.
COACH OF THE YEAR - Louis Barrow, Saginaw Valley St.
Barrow led the Cardinals to a perfect regular season, winning the program's fifth GLIAC championship. Through two seasons as the head coach for SVSU, Barrow has an overall record of 21-7-1 and 17-4-0 in the GLIAC.
