SVSU's Barlow, PNW's Murillo Earn GLIAC Men's Soccer Weekly Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the second week of the spring 2021 Men's Soccer season. Saginaw Valley St. senior Danny Barlow earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Purdue Northwest freshman Martin Murillo claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Danny Barlow - Saginaw Valley St.

Down 3-1 early in the second half, senior Danny Barlow netted two goals in a six-minute span to tie the score and force overtime. In the extra frame, Barlow lifted a ball over the back line of the defense to teammate Kairo Coore, who beat the Northwood goalkeeper for the win. The Newcastle, England native's two-goal and one-assist performance in the win over Northwood lifts Barlow's season totals to five goals and two assists through three games for the Cardinals.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Martin Murillo - Purdue Northwest

Martin Murillo, a freshman from Addison, Illinois, helped anchor a Purdue Northwest back line that surrendered only one shot on goal in a 2-1 victory over Davenport. Murillo has been an integral piece in helping PNW to surrender the fewest goals (3) in the GLIAC through the first three weeks of the season. Murrillo is the third Pride men's soccer player to garner a weekly GLIAC award this season. Senior Matt Bahena was named Offensive Player of the Week on March 9 and junior Edin Galvez picked up Defensive Player of the Week honors on March 16.
