NU's Hunter, SVSU's Maziasz Earn GLIAC Men's Soccer Weekly Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the fifth week of the spring 2021 Men's Soccer season. Northwood senior August Hunter earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Saginaw Valley St. senior Mason Maziasz claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: August Hunter, Northwood 

August Hunter netted a hat-trick in leading Northwood to a 4-2 win over Ashland Sunday, netting the Timberwolves first three goals of the game. He scored at 3:30, 30:38 and 61:34 to lead the Timberwolves to victory. Hunter has netted four goals in the Timberwolves last two games.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mason Maziasz, Saginaw Valley St. 

Mason Maziasz, from Troy, Mich., kept the Cardinals in the game, denying all five Panther shots on goal. He made several crucial one-on-one saves in the game, including one brilliant effort in overtime just minutes before the game-winning goal. For his efforts, Maziasz has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. The award is the second of the season for Maziasz and the fourth overall for the Cardinals in 2021.
