GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 5 of the 2021 Men's Soccer season. St. Cloud State rookie forward Andres Garcia was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week. Upper Iowa senior Alan Dunlop claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Andres Garcia - St. Cloud State
Freshman forward Andres Garcia (Austin, Minn.) recorded the first hat trick in Huskies Men's Soccer history on Sunday against Northern Michigan, scoring all three goals in St. Cloud State's win. He netted four goals on the weekend, converting on four of his five shots on goal. Five of his six shots were on goal. SCS split its weekend, losing 3-2 to Parkside.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Alan Dunlop - Upper Iowa
Senior defender Alan Dunlop (Glasgow, Scotland) dished out two assists for the Peacocks as his passing put Upper Iowa up 1-0 and helped ice the match on their third goal in UIU's 3-1 win against Parkside. The defender also helped the Peacocks neutralize the Parkside offensive attack in his 88 minutes of play. Against Northern Michigan, Dunlop assisted Cain Smith on UIU's go-ahead goal and helped the defense lock down a 3-0 shutout win. The Peacocks allowed just two shots, neither coming on goal. The senior's seven assists rank second in the GLIAC, and he has recorded an assist in all but two of UIU's nine matches.
