BAY CITY, Mich. - Ashland University junior Julie Widmann (Heritage, Colo./Littleton) and Grand Valley State University freshman Sven Kardol (Nuenen, Netherlands) were named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's and Men's Swimming & Diving "Athletes of the Week," respectively, for their efforts last weekend.

Junior - Heritage, Colo./Littleton
Ashland University junior Julie Widmann finished first in the 50 freestyle (24.07) at Oakland University (Mich.) last weekend. She was part of the 200 free relay that won a gold medal in 1:36.57. Widmann was third in the 100 backstroke (58.81) and 200 medley relay (1:48.61). In addition to the Eagles and Oakland, Kenyon and Cincinnati also competed at the meet.

Grand Valley State freshman Sven Kardol hit three NCAA D-II "B" marks as Grand Valley State split a pair of dual meets last weekend. Kardol recorded two first-place finishes, a third and a fourth individually, while also taking part in a relay. Sven hit an NCAA "B" time with a first-place finish in the 1000 free (9:39.78) versus Hope College, followed by a third-place finish in the 100 back (55.03). Kardol finished first in the 200 back at Indianapolis, hitting the "B" mark with a time of 1:52.31, followed by a second-place finish and another "B" cut in the 200 IM (1:55.58).
