BAY CITY, Mich. - Wayne State University sophomore Carol Azambuja (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Objetivo) and Grand Valley State University senior Raphael Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Monte Virgan) were named Great Lake Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's and Men's Swimming & Diving "Athletes of the Week," respectively, for their efforts last weekend.

Sophomore Carol Azambuja contributed to three first-place swims in Friday’s dual meet victory at Calvin College. Azambuja improved her NCAA “B” qualifying times in the 100 freestyle (51.36) and the 200 freestyle (1:50.83), winning both races. She also joined the first-place 200 medley relay (1:48.23).

Grand Valey State senior Raphael Santos recorded a second, fourth and was a part of the Lakers' first-place finishing 400 medley relay team as Grand Valley State dropped a 120-119 decision to Michigan State. Santos touched second in the 200 backstroke (1:50.92), the third-fastest time in DII this season, fourth in the 50 free (21.88) and was a part of GVSU's first-place finished 400 medley relay team that touched 3:23.44.
