Wayne State's Kortman and Driesenga Named GLIAC Women's and Men's Swimming & Diving "Athletes of the Week," respectively

BAY CITY, Mich. - Wayne State University junior Darrin Driesenga (Holland, Mich. / West Ottawa) and junior paige Kortman (Holland, Mich. / Holland) were named Great Lake Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's and Men's Swimming & Diving "Athletes of the Week," respectively, for their efforts last weekend.

Paige Kortman - Wayne State University
Junior - Holland, Mich. / Holland

Wayne State University junior Paige Kortman (Holland, Mich. / Holland) won all four diving events that she entered this past weekend, breaking two school records in the process. Kortman established two new school records on Friday vs. Findlay. Kortman broke a 28-year-old WSU varsity diving record in the 3-meter diving event, scoring 342.45 points. Susan Gierschick had the old WSU record of 331.30, which she set in 1984. Kortman also set a new WSU record in the 1-meter dive, recording a score of 319.27.

Kortman also won both diving events on Saturday at Grand Valley State. She won the 1-meter competition with a score of 263.56 and the 3-meter event with a score of 321.60. Kortman has surpassed the NCAA ‘A’ cut qualifying standards in both events

 

 



 

 

 

 GLIAC Men's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week:
 

 

 

 

Darrin Driesenga - Wayne State University
Junior - Holland, Mich. / West Ottawa

Wayne State University junior Darrin Driesenga (Holland, Mich. / West Ottawa) won two of the four diving competitions that he participated in over the weekend. He won the 1-meter event (339.97) Friday in a home meet against Findlay. Driesenga’s 339.97 established a new WSU varsity diving record in the 1-meter category for six dives, topping Cayce Bolt’s 2009 record of 339.50. Driesenga then won the 3-meter event Saturday with a score of 301.65 at Grand Valley State. Driesenga has eclipsed the NCAA ‘A’ cut qualifying standards in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives.
