WSU's Azambuja and UIndy's Offutt Named GLIAC Women's and Men's Swimming & Diving "Athletes of the Week," respectively

BAY CITY, Mich. - Wayne State University junior Carol Azambuja (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and sophomore Tyler Offutt (Evansville, Ind./Reitz) were named Great Lake Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's and Men's Swimming & Diving "Athletes of the Week," respectively, for their efforts last weekend.

Carol Azambuja - Wayne State University
Freshman - Sao Paulo, Brazil

Wayne State University junior swimmer Carol Azambuja (Sao Paulo, Brazil) broke two Matthaei Pool records during Wayne State University's first home meet of the season Friday against Eastern Michigan University.

Azambuja established new pool records and won two individual events in the 50 free (23.80) and 200 back (2:01.58). She also holds the school record in each event. Azambuja won the 200 back by more than nine seconds over her closest competitor Friday.  Both times are NCAA "B" cuts, while her 200 back time is ranked No. 1 in the country.
Azambuja also swam the third leg in the winning 200 medley relay for the Warriors.

Tyler Offutt - University of Indianapolis
Sophomore - Lodz, Poland

University of Indianapolis sophomore Tyler Offutt (Evansville, Ind./Reitz) won both diving events in Saturday's dual meet against Ashland to lead the Greyhounds to victory, 158-96. He scored 289.35 points in six dives on the one meter board to earn the NCAA "A" standard and qualify for the NCAA Championships. He also scored 290.70 points in winning on the three meter board.
