AU's Widmann and Sheil Named GLIAC Women's and Men's Swimming & Diving "Athletes of the Week," respectively

BAY CITY, Mich. - Ashland University senior Julie Widmann (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) and junior Alex Sheil (Sydney, Australia) were named Great Lake Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's and Men's Swimming & Diving "Athletes of the Week," respectively, for their efforts last weekend.

Julie Widmann - Ashland University
Senior - Littleton, Colo./Heritage

Ashland University senior Julie Widmann had an impressive showing at the Ashland Invitational this weekend (Nov. 16-17). The senior won the 50 free, 100 free (51.10), and 100 back (55.48)  making the A cut in the 50 free with a time of 23.15.

Widmann was a part of two winning relays in the 200 Free (1:34.03) where she posted a 23.55 lead-off split and the 200 Medley Relay (1:43.99). The seniors backstroke split came in as 26.12. Widmann was also on two relays that finished second on the weekend. The Eagles took second in the 400 Medley Relay (3:50.43) and the 400 Free Relay (3:28.43)

Alex Sheil – Ashland University
Junior  -  Sydney, Australia/Trinity

Alex Sheil had a record breaking weekend in the pool. Sheil swam a 1:49.19 in the 200 IM winning the race and besting the previous school record. The junior grabbed another Ashland record in the 200 Free with a time of 1:38.15.  Sheil was a part of a record breaking relay over the weekend in the 400 Free Relay. The foursome swam a 3:01.47 to top the Ashland record books. Sheil recorded a time of 49.47 in the 100 Fly finishing second.
