BAY CITY, Mich. - Northwood University
sophomore Antoine Panguad (Boisseuil, France) was
named the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
(GLIAC) men’s tennis “Player of the Year” by the
league’s head coaches in all-conference balloting. The
coaches named Northwood’s Valentin Bayle
(Brie-Comte-Robert, France) the league’s
“Freshman of the Year,” while Zane
Colestock, head coach of the Northwood University team,
earned GLIAC “Coach of the Year” honors.
In his first year with the program, Antoine
Pangaud became one of the top players in the Midwest region.
He went 14-3 in GLIAC play this spring, posting an 8-1 record at
No. 1 singles while going 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. During the
spring season, Pangaud has won 20 matches overall for the
Timberwolves. He has saved his best play for the end of the
season, having gone 16-4 combined in his last 20 singles and
doubles matches. Only one of his losses this season have come
against an unranked team. Pangaud led Northwood to its 17th
straight GLIAC Championship this season.
Freshman Valentin Bayle had an immediate impact
for the Timberwolves this season, having won 20 matches this spring
combined from the No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles position.
Bayle has been strong in GLIAC play, going 6-2 in both singles and
doubles. He was a big part of Northwood’s GLIAC
Tournament title, going 4-1 combined at the event. Bayle has
gone 5-1 over his last six singles matches and 8-2 over his last 10
doubles matches.
Zane Colestock earned GLIAC Men’s Tennis
“Coach of the Year” honors for the 10th time in his
career this season. Despite sporting an entirely new lineup
from last season, Colestock led the Timberwolves to their 17th
straight GLIAC Championship and their 12th straight GLIAC
Tournament title. For his career, Colestock now has a 545-147
(.788) record as the head coach of the men’s program at
Northwood. The Timberwolves have not lost a match to a GLIAC
opponent since the spring of 1999.
