Ferris State's Vasil Surduk Earns GLIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Year

BAY CITY, Mich. - Ferris State sophomore Vasil Surduk has been selected 2016 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Tennis Player of the Year by league coaches as announced by the conference office on Sunday. FSU rookie Till von Winning gathered Freshman of the Year honors after an impressive debut season. Ferris State's Chad Berryhill was voted Coach of the Year after he guided the Bulldogs to their second consecutive outright conference title and second since 1994.

Ferris State University's Vasil Surduk played a key role as the Bulldogs captured their second-straight GLIAC Regular Season Championship in 2016. Surduk went 8-1 in both conference singles and doubles action as FSU claimed the outright league crown for the second year in a row while finishing with a perfect 9-0 record in the GLIAC. He finished with an overall 15-7 regular-season mark in dual singles play while also combining for a 16-6 doubles ledger. Surduk competed at both the number one singles and doubles positions as FSU capped regular-season action unbeaten for the second year in a row. His efforts helped Ferris State secure the number one seed for the GLIAC Tournament and the squad is currently ranked second in the Midwest Region.

Ferris State University freshman Till von Winning had an impressive rookie campaign for the Bulldogs in helping lead FSU to a second consecutive GLIAC Regular-Season Championship. Von Winning posted an 8-1 mark in league play in singles action at the number two flight in the FSU lineup while also notching a 6-3 mark at the second doubles spot. Overall, he's posted a 16-5 singles record and 15-7 doubles ledger to date in dual competition this year. Von Winning's efforts helped the Bulldogs record a 19-7 regular season record, including a perfect 9-0 league showing while ranking as one of the region's top two squads.

Ferris State University men's tennis head coach Chad Berryhill led the Bulldog men's squad to its second consecutive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Regular Season Championship this spring. Under Berryhill's direction, the Bulldogs compiled a perfect 9-0 mark in league action for the second-straight year, winning the outright conference crown. FSU earned the number one seed overall for the GLIAC Tournament and is currently ranked second in the region along with 36th nationally. Prior to the past two seasons, the Bulldogs had not captured an outright league championship since 1994. FSU holds a 19-4 overall mark to date this campaign heading into the postseason tournament and is in position to potentially host NCAA postseason competition for the first time since 2005.
