No. 15 Ferris State's Surduk Captures GLIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week Honors

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its seventh men's tennis weekly awards for the 2017 campaign. Ferris State junior Vasil Surduk has been named GLIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Vasil Surduk, Ferris State

Ferris State University standout junior Vasil Surduk had a big weekend for the nationally 15th-ranked Bulldogs as he keyed a pair of league home wins to help FSU remain unbeaten in GLIAC play and atop the conference. Surduk had the deciding match in FSU's 5-4 triumph over visiting Wayne State on Sunday as he rallied for a three-set win over WSU's Clement Charriere at the number two flight in what proved to be the deciding contest in the match between two top eight regionally-ranked squads. He lost the first set, but fought back for a 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 triumph to keep the Bulldogs unbeaten in the GLIAC. He also teamed up with Nur Adim Ramdani Iswan for an important 9-8 (2) win at two doubles.

On Friday, Surduk helped FSU shutout longtime tennis rival Northwood for the first time since 1994 by winning in straight-sets at the second individual flight and teaming up with Iswan for an 8-5 win at two doubles. Overall, Surduk finished 4-0 on the weekend as the Bulldogs increased their winning streak to eight consecutive matches. FSU is now 14-2 overall and 7-0 in the GLIAC and in position to secure its third-straight conference regular-season crown with two wins this week.
