Ferris State's Sell Named GLIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its second men's tennis weekly awards for the 2018 campaign. Ferris State University junior Steward Sell claimed GLIAC Athlete of the Week honors after a near-perfect week for the Bulldogs.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Steward Sell - Ferris State

Ferris State University junior Steward Sell (Kalamazoo/Portage Northern) led the nation's 25th-ranked Bulldogs to back-to-back home sweeps this past weekend under first-year head coach Daniel Hangstefer. His play helped FSU top Aquinas 9-0 on Saturday inside the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center before the Bulldogs stretched their win streak to three-straight matches with an identical 9-0 triumph over Hillsdale on Sunday for their first regional win of the year. Sell won both of his singles matches in straight-sets, including a victory at the #1 flight against the Chargers after playing at #2 singles on Saturday.

Sell also paired up with Nur Adim Ramdani Iswan for back-to-back doubles triumphs with 8-5 and 8-3 victories at the #1 doubles flight. Sell and Iswan are ranked 14th in D2 doubles. Ferris State’s 9-0 win over Hillsdale came only a day after the Chargers had battled Northwood to the finish in a 5-4 setback in Midland on Saturday. Sell has won each of his last three consecutive singles and doubles matches this spring for FSU.
