UF's Sanders and GVSU's Thornton Chosen As GLIAC Men's Indoor Track & Field "Athletes of the Week"

BAY CITY, Mich. -  University of Findlay senior Tim Sanders (Delphos, Ohio) and Grand Valley State University freshman Darien Thornton (Huber Heights, Ohio) have been chosen as the GLIAC Men's Indoor Track & Field "Athletes of the Week."

GLIAC Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week:


Tim Sanders - University of Findlay
Senior - Delphos, Ohio

Senior Tim Sanders had an outstanding day at the Buckeye Tune-Up on Feb. 15 in Columbus, Ohio.  He teamed with Michael Travis, Dillon Webster and Kyle Smithey to take third in the 4x400-meter relay with a NCAA automatic qualifying time of 3:14.89 and also finished first in the 60-meter hurdles with a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 8.02.

The Delphos, Ohio native added a third place finish in the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line with a provisional qualifying mark of 22.41.

Dairen Thornton - Grand Valley State University
Freshman -
Huber Heights, Ohio

Grand Valley State freshman Darien Thornton had a career day at the GVSU Tune-Up on Friday, breaking an 11 year old school record in the weight throw with a toss of 20.15 meters (66'1.5") to win the event. The mark is currently the second-best mark in all of NCAA Division II this season. Thornton also came home third in the shot put after unleashing a throw of 16.32 meters (53'6.5").
