BAY CITY, Mich. - Grand Valley State University senior Tyler Emmorey (Cedar Springs, Mich.) was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) men's cross country "Runner of the Week" after finishing second at the Notre Dame Invitational.

Tyler Emmorey - Grand Valley State

Senior Tyler Emmorey finished second at the Notre Dame
Invitational five mile course with a time of 25:01, his second
event of the season. He previously had finished fourth at the
Spartan Invite with a time of 24:34. Emmorey was the
highest-finishing Laker on a squad that captured the team crown in
South Bend, Ind. in their first scored event of the season.
Ashland - The Eagles finished fifth (45 teams) overall at last week’s All-Ohio Championships held at Cedarville. The Eagles were second (14 teams) in the NCAA Division II/NAIA field. Cincinnati won the overall crown with Kent State second, Akron third and Ohio fourth…senior Brock Weaver (Ashland, Ohio) was 10th overall. His time on the 8K course was 25:25.47. Senior Matt Stratman (Chardon, Ohio) was 11th in 25:28.09 and junior Colton Johnson (Mount Gilead, Ohio) was 48th in 26:10.4…Ashland is third in this week’s regional rankings…the Eagles will run at the Carnegie-Mellon Invitational this Saturday (Oct. 8).
Ferris State - The Ferris State University
men’s cross country team put together an impressive
performance by earning runner-up honors at the prestigious Greater
Louisville Classic on Saturday (oct. 1) in Louisville, Ky. The
event was held at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville and
hosted by the Greater Louisville Sports Commission. The Bulldog men
tallied 146 points in finishing second of 33 competing teams in the
Blue Division of the Greater Louisville Classic. NCAA
Division I member Lipscomb took first place (119) with the Bulldogs
placing second ahead of other D1 schools such as Southeast Missouri
State coming in third (173), Southern Illinois-Edwardsville fourth
(213) and Evansville fifth (232). Junior Ryan Chute paced the
Bulldog men as he came in 12th overall of 285 competing runners in
the division in a time of 25:18.88 in the 8K race. Junior Tyler
Crossman was right behind him in 13th place (25:20.82) with
freshman Andrew Harper 40th (25:54.33) and freshman Spencer Gerber
50th (26:01.14). Senior Alex Best took 54th place (26:02.24) and
sophomore Bill King was 65th (26:09.22) for FSU. Junior Steve
Neshkoff finished 68th (26:12.12) and freshman Charlton Craig wound
up 114th (26:35.98) and sophomore David Silversmith came in 169th
(26:59.95). Freshman Blake Garver was 192nd (27:20.53). The
men’s race was won by unattached competitor Bailey Bunyan in
a time of 24:49.34 overall. Ferris State will next take part in the
Penn State National meet on Friday, Oct. 14, in State College,
Pa.
Findlay - The University of Findlay men’s cross country team completed the All-Ohio Championship on Friday, September 30 in Cedarville, Ohio. The men’s team placed 14th with 442 points. Justin Eilerman led the team and took 58th place with a time of 26:17.05. Shoayb Bascal (26:32.71), Sean Jones (26:33.10), Tim Majoy (26:41.37), Jacob Hayes (27:30.46), Luis Velasco (27:38.46) and Joe Guerra (29:00.37) also competed for Findlay at the event.
Grand Valley State - The 3rd-ranked Laker
men won the Notre Dame Invitational Gold Race in South Bend, Ind.
thanks to placing three runners in the top 10 of the individual
standings, led by seniors Tyler Emmorey and Anthony Witt who placed
second and third as Emmorey finished in a time of 25:01 and Witt
crossed the line in 25:04. Junior Stephen Fuelling placed ninth
with a time of 25:21 to help the Lakers accumulate 45 points to win
the event. The team will be competing at Friday’s (Oct. 7)
Michigan Intercollegiate Championships in Hillsdale, Mich. at 4
p.m.
Hillsdale - One week before competing on its home course for the first time this season, the Hillsdale College men’s cross country team made their annual trip to South Bend, Indiana, to compete in the 2011 Notre Dame Cross Country Invitational. They currently ranked fifth in the Midwest Region, finished tied for 11th at the meet. Senior Jacob Secor continued his strong season with the top finish among all the Charger runners, which was 46th overall with a time of 26:04. Tim Jagielski wasn’t far behind, at 55th with a time of 26:09. Freshman Josh Mirth took 70th at the meet, completing the race in 26:26. Next Friday, Hillsdale will host the Michigan Intercollegiate championships, and will dedicate the Hayden Park cross country course at that time.
Lake Erie - The Storm competed at the annual All-Ohio Championships Friday at Cedarville. They finished 40th out of 45 schools Among Division II/NAIA schools, the Storm finished 12th. Junior Craig Gerber was the top individual for Lake Erie, placing 168th out of 310 runners. His second-best time of the season was good for 50th in the Division. The Storm is idle until the GLIAC Championships Oct. 22.
Lake Superior State - LSSU had the week off and will next be in action at the Upper Peninsula Championships in Marquette, Mich.
Michigan Tech - The Huskies were idle this past
week and will next run at the Upper Peninsula Championships in
Marquette, Mich.
Northwood - The Northwood University cross
country teams competed at the Lansing Invitational Friday afternoon
(September 30). The event was hosted by Lansing Community College.
Marcus Rogers (Howell, Mich./Pinckney) was the top finisher for
Northwood. He ran a 26:02 to place 10th overall. That
time puts him eighth on the all-time runners list. Grant
Goodspeed (St. Louis, Mich.) was 20th overall at 26:42. Northwood
will compete at the Hillsdale Invite Friday (October 7).
Ohio Dominican - Competing at the All-Ohio Invitational Friday afternoon, featuring more than 45 Division I, II, III and NAIA schools across the state, Ohio Dominican’s men placed ninth out of 16 Division II/NAIA schools. Overall, the men were 36th out of 45. Freshman Todd Hewitt (Eaton, Ohio) paced the men’s squad with a time of 27:27.33, finishing 142nd out of over 300 runners. Mike Barber (New Franklin, Ohio) followed in 28:12.58, while classmate Matt Richardson (Columbus, Ohio) finished with a mark of 29:43.26. Also breaking the 30 minute barrier were freshman Jason Williams (Powell, Ohio) in 29:50.27 and junior Brian Litt (Mansfield, Ohio) in 29:55.67. ODU’s cross country teams are back in action on October 14 at the Wilmington Fall Classic.
Saginaw Valley State - The Saginaw Valley State
University men’s cross country team competed Friday (9/30) in
the Lansing Community College (LCC) Invitational. The Cardinals
were led by junior Tyler Noble (Shepherd, Mich./Shepherd HS) and
junior transfer Joseph Burelle (Sterling Heights, Mich./Livonia
Stevenson HS) who finished seventh and eighth overall, both
crossing the line at 25:49. Following close behind Noble and
Burelle were teammates Jonathan Wetters (Essexville, Mich./Garber
HS) and Chad Scott (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern HS) who came in
at 26:12 and 26:21, respectively, good for tenth and 11th place
finishes. Rounding out Saginaw Valley’s top-five was
junior Eric Spitz (Holt, Mich./Holt HS) who finished 19th overall
with a final time of 26:44. The Cardinals will be back in action
again Friday (10/7) when they travel to Hillsdale, Mich. to compete
in the Hillsdale Invitational.
Tiffin - Freshman Colin Fisher finished
among the top 12 as the Tiffin University men’s cross country
teams finished among the top five in the NCAA Division II/NAIA race
at the All-Ohio Collegiate Championships, Friday afternoon at the
Elvin R. King CC Course. Fisher ran 26:09.97 to place 12th.
Rounding out the top five were freshman David Knack (16th -
26:12.63), freshman Kevin McKown (31st - 26:42.28), sophomore Brent
Hunter (37th - 27:08.11) and freshman Jimmy Charles (38th -
27:09.53).
Wayne State - The Wayne State men’s cross
country teams recorded a second place finish at the George Mason
Invitational last Saturday. In the race that had 76 participants,
senior Kevin deBear (Plymouth, Mich./Salem) led the Warriors in
fifth place with a time of 25:52. WSU also had three other runners
finish in the top 10: Alex Townsend (Farmington Hills,
Mich./Farmington), who finished seventh with a time of 26:05,
Travis Barczak (Williamston, Mich./Williamston), who placed ninth
with a time of 26:13, and junior Jimmy Maloney (Riverview,
Mich./Riverview), who came in 10th place with a time of 26:24. The
men also placed five more runners in the top 25. Freshman Nick
Culbertson (Clinton Twp., Mich./Dakota) (26:45) posted the best
finish of his young career, ending the day in 15th place, while
sophomore Nicholas Jackson (Washington, Mich./Romeo) (26:52) and
junior Matt Devey (Canton, Mich./Salem) (26:55) capped the race
with 17th and 18th place showings, respectively. Juniors Phil
Baldick (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) (21st-27:04) and Doug Mack (Lake
Orion, Mich./Lake Orion) (22nd-27:07) rounded out the Warrior
contingent in the top 25. Freshman Kory Lohrmann (Romeo,
Mich./Romeo) tallied a 42nd place time of 28:01 and freshman
Patrick Miller (Lenox, Mich./Saint Clair) finished 51st with a time
of 28:32. The Warriors are back in action this Friday at the
Michigan Intercollegiate Championships hosted by Hillsdale
College.
