BAY CITY, Mich. — Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Commissioner Dell Robinson announced the hiring for former Saginaw Valley State University softball player Jillian Peterson to serve as the Conference Office intern. Peterson began her duties on January 3.

“The GLIAC is proud to have one of its accomplished former
student-athletes participating in our internship program,”
stated Robinson. “Jill’s success, both on the field and
in the classroom, makes her a great role model for our current
student-athletes.”
Peterson recently graduated from Saginaw Valley State with a
Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in exercise science while
obtaining a minor in chemistry. A native of Freeland, Michigan, she
earned four varsity letters as a member of the SVSU softball team,
earning honorable mention All-GLIAC status last season, while
helping the Cardinals reach the NCAA Division II Softball
semifinals.
A utility player who appeared in and started in all 60 games for
the Cardinals in 2011, Peterson tallied 53 hits in 174 at-bats
(.305). She led the Cardinals with nine home runs, and was second
on the team in doubles (11) and at-bats (174), while ranking third
in slugging percentage (.523). In her career she started in 120
games of the 174 she appeared in a Saginaw Valley uniform. She
compiled career totals of: 113 hits, 26 doubles, 12 homeruns, and
69 runs scored. She posted a total of 198 put-outs and 27 assists
for a .970 fielding percentage.
Peterson was also a standout in the classroom, being named to the
GLIAC Softball All-Academic team in each of the last three seasons.
She was named to the SVSU Dean’s List three times during her
career while earning a Student Research & Creativity Institute
grant for her academic success.
Peterson is active in her local community as a volunteer. As a
member of the SVSU Student Exercise Science Association she helped
with the Relay for Life, Healthy You and Lunch and Learns
campaigns. She also serves as a Great Lakes Bay Regional Youth
Leadership Mentor, guiding high school students in the
community
