“The GLIAC is proud to have one of its accomplished former student-athletes participating in our internship program,” stated Robinson. “Jill’s success, both on the field and in the classroom, makes her a great role model for our current student-athletes.”

Peterson recently graduated from Saginaw Valley State with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in exercise science while obtaining a minor in chemistry. A native of Freeland, Michigan, she earned four varsity letters as a member of the SVSU softball team, earning honorable mention All-GLIAC status last season, while helping the Cardinals reach the NCAA Division II Softball semifinals.

A utility player who appeared in and started in all 60 games for the Cardinals in 2011, Peterson tallied 53 hits in 174 at-bats (.305). She led the Cardinals with nine home runs, and was second on the team in doubles (11) and at-bats (174), while ranking third in slugging percentage (.523). In her career she started in 120 games of the 174 she appeared in a Saginaw Valley uniform. She compiled career totals of: 113 hits, 26 doubles, 12 homeruns, and 69 runs scored. She posted a total of 198 put-outs and 27 assists for a .970 fielding percentage.

Peterson was also a standout in the classroom, being named to the GLIAC Softball All-Academic team in each of the last three seasons. She was named to the SVSU Dean’s List three times during her career while earning a Student Research & Creativity Institute grant for her academic success.

Peterson is active in her local community as a volunteer. As a member of the SVSU Student Exercise Science Association she helped with the Relay for Life, Healthy You and Lunch and Learns campaigns. She also serves as a Great Lakes Bay Regional Youth Leadership Mentor, guiding high school students in the community
