Detroit, Mich. -- Members of the Wayne State
University softball team volunteered their time this past Saturday,
October 15th at the Miracle League in Southfield. The Miracle
league is a charitable organization that provides children with
mental and/or physical challenges an opportunity to play baseball
as a team member in an organized league.
The Warriors assisted the children while they played and acted as
“buddies.” Being a buddy meant you would help the child
if they needed assistance swinging a bat, throwing a ball or being
wheeled or supported around the bases. Most of all, the women
were there to enhance the experience of the children by providing
them someone to talk to and be “buddies” with.
"This was a very valuable experience for us," said WSU SAAC
President and softball senior Rebecca Stanley. "We
were able to be surrounded by children who expressed shear joy and
excitement for being able to play baseball in an all inclusive
setting on their specially made field. Providing these
children with the opportunity to succeed and have fun is a great
credit to the Miracle League and we look forward to being able to
help out again in the future."
