LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Despite suffering its first defeat since back on February 23rd, make it five consecutive weeks at the top of the NFCA Division II softball poll for Indianapolis (48-4) as the Greyhounds picked up 10 of 16 possible first-place votes to continue their hold on the No. 1 slot.

Indianapolis, which saw its incredible 38-game winning streak come to an end, posted a 4-2 mark over the past week. Included were doubleheader splits versus St. Joseph’s (12-1 in 5 inn., 3-5) and Lewis (0-2, 7-3) and a two-contest road sweep of Wisconsin-Parkside (9-1 in 6 inn., 4-0).

Southeastern Oklahoma State (44-7) swept through the Great American Conference Tournament in Bentonville, Ark., posting victories over Southwestern Oklahoma State (3-2), Arkansas-Monticello (5-3) and Henderson State (8-0, 6-2). That effort earned the Savage Storm three first-place nods and a single-spot climb to second in the latest rankings.

Peach Belt Conference regular season titlist Armstrong Atlantic (36-7-1) was idle this past week to drop one position to No. 3, while Valdosta State (37-9) picked up a pair of first-place votes and remained in fourth after taking both ends of doubleheaders from both Delta State (7-5, 7-1) and Christian Brothers (9-1, 10-3).  Humboldt State (44-12) stretched its winning streak to nine games and rose a spot to No. 5 while nabbing a single first-place selection from the voters.

Improving a pair of slots to sixth was Texas Woman’s (43-12) as the Pioneers topped Tarleton State (4-3 in 8 inn.) and then nabbed two-of-three match-ups from then-No. 5 West Texas A&M to secure the program’s first Lone Star Conference championship. California (Pa.) held steady at No. 7 with its impressive 32-2 mark, while West Texas A&M (41-10) dropped three positions into eighth. Grand Valley State (36-4) and Tampa (31-8) rounded out the top 10 at Nos. 9 and 10, respectively.

The lone squad to fall out of the latest NFCA Division II poll was formerly-No. 23-rated Adelphi (36-17), opening the door for this week’s entrance of Alabama-Huntsville (35-13) at No. 18.

The NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll is voted on by 16 NCAA Division II head coaches, two representing each of the eight NCAA regions. Current 2013 records are shown, first-place votes are in parentheses.
