Ferris State's Hongisto, Grand Valley State's Lipovsky Earns GLIAC Softball Player of the Week Honors

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly softball awards following the tenth week of the 2017 seasonFerris State sophomore Lexi Hongisto earned GLIAC Softball Player of the Week honors, while Grand Valley State sophomore Allison Lipovsky captured Pitcher of the Week accolades for the third consecutive week.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Lexi Hongisto, Ferris State

Ferris State University third baseman Lexi Hongisto had a big weekend for the Bulldogs in a pair of league doubleheaders. Hongisto hit .429 in 14 plate appearances while totaling six hits, six runs scored, eight RBI's and two home runs. She also drew a walk, was hit by a pitch and doubled once for FSU in the four contests. Her best game came to end the weekend in a high-scoring 18-13 road loss at Northwood on Saturday when she belted two homers and drove in six runs with three hits and three runs scored. Additionally, she had two hits and scored twice with an RBI in FSU's impressive 15-3 league home win over nationally 23rd-ranked Saginaw Valley State in Friday's second game. Hongisto finished the week with a .929 slugging percentage and accounted for 13 total bases with three extra base hits.


PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Allison Lipovsky, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State sophomore Allison Lipovsky continued her recent surge, as she allowed just one run on six hits in 14.0 innings last week. The reigning back-to-back GLIAC Pitcher of the Week, she totaled 28 strikeouts against just four walks in a pair of road victories. In a 7-1 win at Saint Joseph's on Tuesday, Lipovsky gave up one run on three hits, while notching 13 strikeouts. She followed up on Friday with a three-hit complete-game shutout in a 3-0 win at Northwood and recorded a career-high 15 K's, the most punchouts by a Laker pitcher since 2004. Lipovsky has struck out 10 or more batters in four of her last five outings and has a GLIAC-high 58 strikeouts in league play.
