GVSU Lakers Sweep GLIAC Softball Player of the Week Honors; Lipovsky, Lenza Awarded

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly softball awards following week 11 of the 2017 seasonGrand Valley State senior Jenna Lenza earned GLIAC Softball Player of the Week honors, while Grand Valley State sophomore Allison Lipovsky captured Pitcher of the Week accolades for the fourth consecutive week.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Jenna Lenza - Grand Valley State

GVSU senior Jenna Lenza continued her 12-game hitting streak with hits in all six Laker victories last week and an overall .529 batting average. Her two-out, two-run, walk-off homer in the eighth inning gave GVSU the 2-0 victory over Walsh on Sunday, which was Lenza's third walkoff home run of the season. She was 3-for-4 in the 5-2 game one win over Lake Erie on Saturday, then scored three runs in the 12-5 victory in game two. Lenza smacked three doubles, with her last two-bagger giving her 22 doubles on the year, tying former Laker Katie Martin for the GLIAC single season record. She leads the conference this season in batting average (.481), on-base percentage (.555), slugging percentage (.737), and doubles. Lenza alone outscored GVSU’s opponents throughout the week by an 8-7 count.


PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Allison Lipovsky, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State sophomore Allison Lipovsky went 3-0 last week with a 0.64 earned run average, allowing only two runs on eight hits in 22.0 innings in the circle. The fireballer notched 34 strikeouts against just two walks. She tossed a two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts and zero walks against Aquinas on Tuesday, followed by a complete-game four-hitter in a 5-2 win over Lake Erie, adding 11 strikeouts against one walk. Lipovsky finished the weekend with an eight-inning two-hit shutout on Sunday against Walsh, with one walk and 13 strikeouts in the 2-0 walk-off victory. She has nine games of double-digit strikeouts, including six straight outings of at least 10 K's. During GVSU's 15-game win streak, Lipovsky is 7-0 with a 0.41 ERA, tallying 80 strikeouts and only nine walks.
