BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly softball awards following the fifth week of the 2017 campaign. Hillsdale senior outfielder Bekah Kastning earned GLIAC Softball Player of the Week honors, while Saginaw Valley senior Sam Willman captured Pitcher of the Week accolades.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Bekah Kastning, Hillsdale
Hillsdale senior outfielder Bekah Kastning had a scorching week for the Chargers in Florida. In six games, she batted .611, getting at least one hit in every game. She belted 2 doubles in a 12-4 win over St. Ambrose Saturday, and later that day, recorded her third four-hit game of her career in a 14-4 win over St. Francis. She had 11 hits in 18 at bats last week and had 15 total bases. Kastning currently leads the GLIAC with a .549 batting average on the season, 64 points better than any other player.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Sam Willman, Saginaw Valley
Saginaw Valley senior pitcher Sam Willman tossed a complete game while allowing a single, unearned run in the Cardinals' 5-1 victory at Bellarmine on Monday. Willman allowed just three hits while striking-out seven batters in the victory.
