BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly softball awards following the eighth week of the 2017 season. Grand Valley State senior Jenna Lenza earned GLIAC Softball Player of the Week honors, while Grand Valley State sophomore Allison Lipovsky captured Pitcher of the Week accolades.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Jenna Lenza, Grand Valley State
Grand Valley State senior Jenna Lenza batted .579 and was 11-for-19 last week, as the Lakers went 4-2 against Lewis, Hillsdale, and No. 18 Wayne State. She was 3-for-5 with a double and four RBI in the home doubleheader sweep over Lewis. Lenza combined to go 7-for-8 with three runs scored in the doubleheader split at Hillsdale on Saturday, including a 4-for-4 effort in game one with a pair of runs. She had an on-base percentage of .600 and a slugging percentage of .684, with four runs and five RBI for the week.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Allison Lipovsky, Grand Valley State
Grand Valley State sophomore Allison Lipovsky allowed only two earned runs on 12 hits in 20.0 innings of work last week, finishing with a 2-1 record and a 0.70 ERA. The reigning GLIAC Freshman of the Year, she tossed a complete game four-hit shutout in a 1-0 home win over Lewis on Tuesday. She followed up with two runs (one earned) on five hits in a complete game 8-2 victory at Hillsdale on Saturday, striking out six. Lipovsky was on the tough end of a 1-0 loss at No. 18 Wayne State on Sunday, giving up one run on three hits, while not walking a batter and striking out 10 Warriors. For the week, she recorded 20 K's and just five walks, logging 100+ pitches in two of her three outings.
